Making the kitchen more like home.

I have been bitten a bit by the decorating bug lately. I have been thinking about ways to spruce up my kitchen. As with any project of this nature I have been scouring the internet for inspirations. These are the top three kitchens that I think are simple and beautiful.

1. Lindsay's of Rosemarried.

The thing I love most about this kitchen is the very neutral color pallet with pops of color. Although my kitchen right now is mostly full of wood and pinkish tile, I hope that someday to have a clean white kitchen. The biggest inspiration i have drawn from this is have a strong color palette in mind.   I have narrowed the kitchen's color palette to Lime , Aqua, and Yellow.

I love that this kitchen is filled with beautiful vintage housewares. The way she uses the space above the cabinets for her vintage thermos collection brings such a personal charm to the tops of otherwise sorta blah cabinets. The biggest take away for me is the pattern curtains. I love gingham curtains (or any patterned curtain) my great grandmother and grandmother on my father's side both had beautiful hand embroidered blue and red gingham curtains. I have chosen polka dots for my kitchen. (hand embroidered by me, and hopefully done this week so I can show you.)

I have to admit, if i have a blogger crush on anyone it is Alicia. Her blog is just so cute and her house is beyond adorable. I love the swedish/midwestern farm girl style that she has. I love the way that she uses glass jars and vintage canisters to store her baking supplies out on the counter where they are easy to access and give the kitchen a well loved and used look. I wish had the counter space to do something like this. Fortunately my pantry has a frosted glass door on it so I can use this technique to make that area lovely too.
