I feel like as an Oregonian I miss out on a lot of bright pretty summer make up. I always feel a bit silly and clownish swiping bright orange lipstick across my lips when the sky is the color of wet cement.
But I’ve learned that those grey morning skies often give way to sunny afternoon skies and sweltering (to us) heat, so I think I have finally perfected a good make up routine to take from dreary morning to dreamy afternoon and evening.
For the most part, I am a mineral make up foundation girl. The one exception is when it's hot out. No matter what primer I use, it slides right off my face. So summer time is tinted moisturizer time. Because it absorbs into my skin and stays put, Urban Decay's Urban Defense is my choice of moisturizer. When I get shiny I use a translucent pressed powder like Urban Decay De-Slick. To be perfectly honest, the packaging is what drew me into this great product, and now my make-up bag is never with out it!
I love shimmery neutrals for eyes; I have light blue/gray/green eyes and these tones work for me. But, in a dreary summer morning I like a little pop of color, so I've been reaching for a light peachy/copper shimmer. Lately, I've been using MAC Coppering blended with MAC All That Glitters Shadows, with a big swipe of deep black winged liner and lots of Mascara!
Such a simple-ish eye gives me a chance to play with my lips. I am really loving corals and red right now but most mornings it is a shimmery peachy nude gloss. Neutrogena MostureShine gloss in Healthy Blush, or Urban Decay Ultraglide in O. In the afternoon, I'll slip on Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Coral for a quick pick me up of a summer color.
